Ballet Slippers

These Ballet Slipper Cookies were made for a ballet recital.
I hand carved each ofthe 30 slippers.  I also used
luster dust for the first time to add a little shimmer and totally love it!
Luster Dust is my new-found friend!

Safari Baby Shower Cake & Cupcakes

This Dark Chocolate Cake with buttercream frosting
was made for a baby shower.
The theme was safari and the invitations had a very cute design.
I took the stars and palm tree from the invitation
to decorate the cake.
If I had more time, I would have made fondant animals to match.
But the client was very pleased with what I gave her.

These Dark Chocolate & Double Vanilla Cupcakes
were also created for the occasion.
I made royal icing stars to again match the invitation.  The best part is that the display the cupcakes sat in onsite had a dark brown ribbon with almost exact matching green polka dots.  So it looked like I knew what the display looked like before creating the color!

A Snowy Day in CT

What does a baker do when she's snowed in with 2 children???

SHE BAKES WITH THE KIDS!

Since I was home alone, snowed in, with my 3.5 and almost 2 year old, and my big boy had a great first week at his new school, I decided to reward him with his favorite treat - Chocolate Cupcakes! And for the first time, he helped to make them - which he loved.

He helped to add the ingredients.  To save on time, I used a box mix and doctored it up.

Normally, I would care what the finished product would look like,
but my son's prior school taught him to flip the cupcake
upside down to eat it and not make a mess.
So when he turned my beautiful Christmas Tree Cupcake over
to eat it, I said never again!  :-)

So I just applied the icing with a knife and then
flipped it upside down for him.

After hand-picking through the cupcake, he asked for a fork
to scrape up the icing.  There was nothing left but streaks
of chocolate icing on his plate.  Another happy client!

As a cute way to say thank you, I put the client's initials
in the clouds of one of the cookies.  :-)
